First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Manfred (Manni) Naumann and from the 1st of April I will be the new main tennis coach at Conway. Originally I’m from Germany and moved to London in 1989. Initially I followed the career as a musician, rejected the position as a drummer with “Prince”, to become a tennis coach at Conway, ok: not quite the truth! Anyway, my love for music was gradually replaced by my passion for tennis. For more than 8 years, since I turned 45, I have been a regular participant at ITF veterans tournaments around Europe (Spain, Finland, Estonia, England). In 2000 and 2002 I traveled to South America (Chile, Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay) to play selected tournaments. Choked under pressure in Puerto alegre (Brazil) in the final against the chilian #1 in the third set, when I couldn’t convert 2 match points; no worries I got over it. I even reached a world ranking just outside the top 100, in the age category 50+; whau!!
In 2001 I completed my US PTR tennis coaching license, worked in the same year at “Mark Warner’s” holiday resort in San Luciano in Corsica. After my return I started to work with Steve Durie at Coolhurst Tennis Club in Crouch End. Two years ago Harvey Becker replaced Steve and I continued working with Harvey, from whom I learned a lot. Simultaneously, I worked at Highgate Tennis and Cricket Club with Caroline Baguandes; we focused our work mainly in the surrounding schools (5-7 yrs) and after school teaching at the club for the advanced children (7-10 yrs).
I hope I can be an inspiration for the young ones and continue to develop and support the established players in the future at Conway. I am hoping to be helpful in every aspect of your game; with your own effort we can get to a higher level; step by step!
